Essential grammar skills are taught so as to help students to perfect their editing component and also to improve their language skills in their essays and situational writing. Part 2: Perfecting Responses for Situational Writing
At TTT, students master the skills, techniques and formats to respond to a range of text types including informal/formal letters, emails, reports, articles and speeches.

To ensure that students master the technical writing abilities for each genre of writing, we would usually provide an overview of all the skills required, before applying a step-by-step approach to help students to acquire the skills needed to master each segment of the essay writing process. With easy-to-follow scaffolded drills and model sample paragraphs, mastering a genre of writing no longer becomes a daunting or time-consuming affair!
Students at TTT also receive a copy of our highly-effective and targeted vocabulary list for each type of writing including – personal recount/narrative writing, hybrid writing and expository writing. Our Paper 2 Program
At TTT, we believe that a mastery of the paper 2 component requires enhancing two broad sets of skills – 1) being able to understand the text accurately through text annotation skills, as well as 2) learning how to find the answer and how to present the answer in a precise manner for each question type.
Therefore, we teach in-depth text annotation and close reading strategies to help students to be able to mine the text for meaning – not merely in terms of the content, but also in terms of making the right inferences, understanding how and why the writer chooses to use certain words or literary techniques in order to convey meaning.
We also adopt an efficient and systematic approach in terms of teaching answering techniques, by first teaching students how to analyse and identify all question types (e.g. unusual and effective, writer’s craft, inferential, in your own words), and how to answer them accurately to secure full marks.

What is covered under Secondary English Curriculum?
We cover the main 3 components in the Secondary English Curriculum – Writing Skills, Comprehension Skills and Speaking & Listening Skills.
For Writing Skills, we cover both Situational Writing and Essay Writing. We teach students all question types, ranging from Argumentative to Personal-Reflective. This portion of the Secondary English Tuition aims to make students stand out from their peers by teaching students to incorporate broader contexts and enhanced vocabulary into their essays.
For Comprehension, we teach students the different question types so that students are able to understand how to tackle each question effectively.
For Speaking & Listening Skills, we conduct intensive oral assessments to simulate examination settings. This is so that they can be prepared for their oral examinations and pass them with flying colours!
What happens if my child belongs to the IP/IB Program?
We have IP/IB specific classes at The Thought Tailor. The teachers for those classes are IP/IB trained and are able to cover all aspects of the specific Secondary English curriculum. We believe in student-oriented learning as well. Your child should communicate with the teacher and update the teacher on the current syllabus being taught at their respective schools and we can prepare additional assignments for them to help them score in their work. At TTT, all our lessons for Secondary English Tuition seek to impart the necessary skills and content to uplift your grades to an A. Furthermore, all our teachers will provide round-the-clock support and aid to ensure that we are able to improve your grades. However, we also believe that nothing drops from the sky. The teachers and our unique Secondary English curriculum staff do work very hard, but we believe doing well for English also requires a similar effort from you. Together, we will succeed.
How much are the Secondary English Tuition Classes?
Each lesson in the Secondary English Tuition lasts 2 hours and costs $75(Upper Sec) and $80(Lower Sec). Upon enrollment, each student is required to pay a deposit which consists of the fees for 4 weeks of lessons. We also employ a 2-month billing cycle whereby the invoice is billed every 2 months.
