Our Lesson Structure:

Paper 1 - Writing

Situational Writing

  • Adopt brainstorming techniques using Purpose, Audience, Context, Tone, as well as through a checklist of questions, to ensure that the situational writing response meets the requirement of the paper.
  • Read model sample essays, and improve bad sample essays, so as to truly master the content strategies, writing techniques and organisational tools required for writing a perfect situational writing essay.

Essay Writing

  • Learn to effectively apply interesting techniques for writing creative essays including INKPOT (for creative introduction), plot structures (linear vs. non-linear), characterisation, use of creative descriptions for varied settings, suspense writing techniques and more. 
  • Effectively annotate and improve bad sample essays, so as to better appreciate the requirements for writing a perfect essay.
  • Apply useful vocabulary words and phrases from the accompanying vocabulary list attached to each essay practice, as well as through our bi-monthly vocabulary test.
  • Ensure perfection through regular practices and scaffolded drills.

Paper 2 - Language & Comprehension

  • Effectively apply the different skills required for close reading annotation, as well as the specific skills and answering techniques required for each question type for both visual text and narrative comprehension, so as to be able to identify the accurate answers for comprehension. 
  • Learn the different grammar word classes and contextual blanks (e.g. collocations) required to attain maximum marks for comprehension. 
  • Pick up micro lessons on different aspects of grammar (subject-verb agreement, passive vs. active voice) to make concrete progress in tackling grammar-related components.
  • Learn about the 9 types of synthesis and transformation groups, and understand the grammar rules for each type, for effective application. 
  • Master vocabulary words that are regularly tested in the vocabulary section, through regular drill practices and carefully-crafted bi-monthly vocabulary tests.

We cover all components of the Primary English syllabus, including essay writing, grammar as well as comprehension skills. We approach the different components by teaching the skills required, before giving students appropriate guided practices with varying levels of difficulty. For instance, some of the skills taught in essay writing include: brainstorming suitable plots, interesting setting, characterisation as well as the implementation of more sophisticated writing techniques to vary the pace and space in the essay.

Each Primary English lesson lasts 2 hours and costs $70 (early bird – $65). Upon enrollment, each student is required to pay a deposit which consists of the fees for 4 weeks of lessons. We also employ a 2-month billing cycle for the Primary English Tuition whereby the invoice is billed every 2 months. If you wish, you can opt for our yearly subscription to enjoy further discounts!
