I joined TTT in 2021, and my teacher was Mr. Russell, who is also my current JC1 tutor. There are many things that i like about the classes at TTT, and one of the key things is that Mr. Russell breaks down the skills required for the EL paper into smaller components with specific skills to focus on, with a step-by-step strategy to help me understand the question, find the answer and present the answer in an appropriate manner, consistent with the specific requirements of the question. I enjoyed doing the worksheets, which are created in an effective manner, to enable me to pick up the skills quickly, and then to try more difficult questions to see some possible variations in the question type. Given that comprehension skills is one of my weaker areas, learning how to analyse comprehension texts and then learning how to structure my response, basically helped me to solve one of the key weaknesses that I had for the English Language.
I also like that there were content notes that helped me to prepare for my oral examination and also for essay questions. Mr. Russell covered all the key essay genres including hybrid writing, argumentative writing, discursive writing and personal recount, which gave me good understanding of the expectations of the questions, as well as the creative elements that I could add in to do well. This was also the case for the situational writing, in which he covered all the basic and advanced techniques of writing, and gave us sufficient practice to ensure that we would know how to strategise and write efficiently under timed conditions. With a wonderful structure and strategy, excellent teaching as well as wonderful after-lesson support, I managed to improve by 4 grades after I retook the O level. This surely proves that it is possible to prepare for the English Language Paper, and I am glad that I joined TTT.
