Reading Passage
| Jim was going to meet his classmate, Ravi, to work on their report on recycling. He decided to wear a new pair of sports shoes that he had not worn before, although they were bought some time ago.
As Jim walked to the meeting place, he felt his shoes rubbing uncomfortably against his heels. Thinking that the pain was only temporary, he ignored it as he was raring to show off his shoes to Ravi. However, the problem soon worsened. Jim had to stop walking to remove his shoes and check his feet. “Ouch! My skin is red and sore. I’ll get blisters soon!” he exclaimed before limping to his destination. “What happened to you? Why are you grimacing and walking barefoot?” Ravi asked with great concern when he saw Jim approaching. The pain was unbearable. Holding his shoes in his hands, Jim said regretfully, “I’ve outgrown these shoes, but it’s such a pity to discard them.” Ravi replied, “You can recycle them! It’s what we’ve learned from our research!” |

“Mum, there’s a sale on computers and laptops at the mall today! It’s a great time for us to purchase a new laptop as our current one is old and slow.” Lily said excitedly. Mrs Goh pondered before replying, “I know it’s time to buy a replacement, but l will need to look at the prices first.” To persuade their mother, the children explained the features of the less expensive laptops listed in the newspaper advertisement. They also highlighted the suitability of these laptops for their schoolwork and learning. After some time, Mrs Goh was convinced by her children and suggested to her husband, “Let’s go to the mall to see if there’s really a good deal.” Lily and Alex jumped for joy as they prepared to leave for the mall with their parents. |

Day 1 2023
| It was the start of the school holidays. Mr and Mrs Wong knew that their twins, Lily and Benny, would be bored if they had too much leisure time on their hands. They definitely did not want their children to spend all their time at home playing computer games. So, they decided to sign up for a local tour as a family.
The parents showed their children a tour booklet and asked them to consider a few options. “This tour seems interesting! It includes a visit to the Science Centre,” Benny said as the children scrutinised the booklet. “Wait, what about this food tour where we’ll get to try many traditional dishes at famous restaurants?” asked Lily. Upon hearing this, Benny exclaimed, “That sounds great! Let’s pick the food tour.” Their parents looked at them and smiled. They were glad that the twins were enthusiastic about participating in a local tour. “I’m sure we’ll enjoy ourselves tremendously during the tour,” Mr Wong stated confidently as Mrs Wong nodded in agreement. |

She decided she had to do something about them too while she continued to look for her prized possession. Just then, her father entered the room with something in his hand. “Look at what I found in the living room,” he said sternly. “Nora, aren’t you supposed to look after your belongings? Why is your room so messy?” Nora was relieved when she saw her father holding her scrapbook. Bete it could reprimand her further, Nora thanked him and promised, “Il take better care of my things and tidy my room.” After hearing her words, Nora’s father nodded approvingly. |
