Objective: The Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) in Singapore has transitioned from the T-score system to the Achievement Levels (AL) scoring system to simplify student assessment and reduce stress. Each subject is now graded on an eight-band scale from AL1 (90–100 marks) to AL8 (below 20 marks), focusing on broader performance bands rather than precise scores.

The total PSLE score, calculated by summing the ALs of all subjects, determines secondary school placement:

Students’ performance is measured in wider ranges, focusing on academic achievements rather than precise rankings.

Tie-Breaking Criteria

If two students have the same PSLE score:

  1. Citizenship is considered (Singapore citizens prioritized over PRs/foreigners).
  2. Students with better mother tongue language grades are ranked higher.
  3. Random balloting is the final tie-breaker.
